Of course walking or running up the beach in either direction and then just turning around and coming back is lots of fun! We do it all the time. But, if you would like to avoid backtracking and explore a few “inland trails” here are few routes we enjoy.Distances are approximate and derived from Google Earth. Beach accesses mentioned are generally well marked and easy to spot.

This 4 mile route below takes you through Burney Park where there are public restrooms.
If you don’t go through the park (which is mostly just a parking lot) you can continue straight to the end of Burney Road where there is a public beach access between 2 houses.

This 5 mile route takes you through gated Amelia Island Plantation. On foot, there is no problem just walking in.
From the trail alongside A1A you will turn left on David Gregory at the first traffic circle. From there you go right on Beachwood and follow it until you reach signs for the Ocean Club. Right past that, is a public beach access.
